Nordik Mallard
This single reed duck call is easy to blow, specially adapted for beginners since a smaller amount of air is needed. This call can produce all the basic sounds for calling mallards. The ma- terial in this call is polycarbonate and its’ design offers several ways to attach a lanyard.
How to use
Hold the call at the waist of the sound chamber between your thumb and index finger, and place the barrel against your mouth, as if you were to drink from it. Make sure you can use your remaining fingers to open and close in front of the call, this gives you a more life like sound. Mind that you don’t close your hand completly in front of the call since this will choke the sound, and when you open your hand, you want to ”throw” out the sound.
The quack sound
Close your fingers in fromt of the sound chamber, and press air out from your diaphragm, as if you were to say the word ”DWITT”, at the same time, open your hand.
Sequence: dwitt, dwitt, dwitt.
Greeting call
Make a series of 4-5 quack sounds in a pretty rapid cadence. Make the first three quacks longer. Use your hand actively, open and close with each quack.
Sequence: dwiiitt…, dwiiitt…, dwiiit…, dwitt, dwitt.
Comeback call
Make a series of 6-8 quacks in a faster and louder sequence. Again, use your hand, opening and closing your fingers with each quack.
Feeding call
Make a series of very rapid, short thrusts of air, while trying to say the word ”ticka, ticka,… ticka, ticka, ticka” sporadically and without any rythm or predictabillity. Again, use your remaining fingers to open and close in front of the call.
