The Mosin-Nagant M44 is a Soviet carbine-length, bolt-action rifle that was introduced in 1944. It is based on the M38 but includes a permanently attached, side-folding cruciform-spike bayonet for close-quarters combat, which was a response to the need for a handier rifle during urban warfare in WWII. Produced until 1948 in Russia and later by other Communist Bloc countries, it was a staple for Red Army infantry and has been used in conflicts since WWII.
